Kana Launcher
Kana Launcher cannot launch a shortcut (.lnk) file. What is the problem?
Question:
Kana Launcher cannot launch a shortcut (.lnk) file. What is the problem?
Answer:
The problem is the Windows registry to handle shortcut maybe broken. It can be caused by many reasons. Here is the email by a user on how he solved the problem.
The culprit was a single registry value. I simply needed to add a value named “IsShortcut” (type STRING) to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\lnkfile (alias HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile)
Even leaving the value blank sufficed. And I made SURE that this value was the true solution–by adding it, testing, and removing it again. With the value (and after a reboot), Kana Launcher works fine. Why did my registry lack that value? Damn tweaking tools.
One cause of the above problem is if you want to hide shortcut arrow by using some tweaking program. You can see if this is the case by examining the right click menu on your Explorer. You will see some of the entries (Winzip, WinRar, etc.) listed twice.
